The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has congratulated Hauwa Abubakar, a wheelchair user, on the successful completion of her one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
Abba Isa described Hauwa’s achievement as inspiring, noting that her determination to complete the national service programme despite the challenges associated with physical disability demonstrates that disability should never be a barrier to personal development, national service and meaningful contributions to society.
Hauwa recently celebrated the successful completion of her NYSC programme, drawing commendation from disability advocates and members of the public for her courage, resilience and commitment to fulfilling her civic responsibility.
Beyond her academic accomplishments and national service, Hauwa has also distinguished herself through disability rights advocacy and political inclusion.
On October 20, 2026, she announced that she represented the Spinal Cord Injury Association of Nigeria (SCIAN) as a cluster delegate at the 2026 Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) National Disability Convention and Election held in Kaduna.
The convention focused on electoral inclusion, political participation and strengthening the representation of persons with disabilities in Nigeria’s democratic process.
Her participation further underscores her commitment to advancing the rights, welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities beyond personal achievements.
Abba Isa commended Hauwa for refusing to allow physical limitations to define her aspirations, describing her journey as a testament to the importance of determination, equal opportunities and an inclusive society.
He noted that her successful completion of the NYSC programme reinforces the need for government institutions, employers and other stakeholders to create accessible environments where persons with disabilities can contribute meaningfully to national development.
The presidential aide also reaffirmed the commitment of the Tinubu administration to promoting the rights, dignity and opportunities of persons with disabilities in line with the provisions of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
Hauwa’s achievement has once again brought to the fore the popular message that there is ability in disability, demonstrating that with determination, accessibility and equal opportunities, persons with disabilities can excel in education, public service, leadership and other spheres of national life.
Her successful completion of the NYSC programme is not only a personal milestone but also an inspiring example for young Nigerians with disabilities.
