The Director of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Mobilization for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has officially unveiled robust mobilization structures for the electioneering campaign aimed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.
The unveiling took place Monday when Hon. Abba Isa paid a visit to the Secretary PWDs Mobilization I, Aare Hon. Tolu Bankole, in his office.
The meeting provided an opportunity to present the proposed architecture for the directorate and discuss strategies for strengthening the participation and representation of persons with disabilities in the 2027 campaign.
According to Hon. Abba Isa, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, the primary objectives of establishing this expansive framework is to carry everyone along in strict alignment with the core objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, ensuring that no one is left behind.
The structure, which stretches from the national level to the 176,846 polling units across the country, is expected to provide a coordinated platform for reaching persons with disabilities, promoting their participation in the electoral process and mobilizing support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The structure provides for leadership and coordination at six geopolitical zones, 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards, before cascading down to polling-unit teams.
At the national level, the PWDs Mobilization Directorate is headed by Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa as Director of PWDs Mobilization.
He is supported by the Deputy Director, PWDs Mobilization, Bar. Ayubu Gufwan; Secretary PWDs Mobilization I, Aare Hon. Tolu Bankole; and Secretary PWDs Mobilization II, Hon. Misbahu Lawan Didi.
The structure also provides for specialized wings dedicated to women and youth with disabilities, reflecting the growing emphasis on the participation of these two important constituencies in political mobilisation.
The Women PWDs Mobilization wing is expected to coordinate engagement with women with disabilities across the country, while the Youth PWDs Mobilization wing will focus on younger persons with disabilities and their participation in political activities, digital engagement, voter education and grassroots mobilisation.
At the zonal level, the framework provides for six Zonal Coordinators, six Deputy Zonal Coordinators and six Zonal Secretaries.
The state structure comprises 37 State Coordinators, 37 Deputy State Coordinators and 37 State Secretaries, covering the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
At the local government level, the directorate has provided for 774 LGA Coordinators, 774 Deputy Coordinators and 774 Secretaries.
The structure further extends to the ward level, where 8,809 Ward Coordinators, 8,809 Deputy Coordinators and 8,809 Secretaries are expected to coordinate activities across the country’s wards.
The most extensive component of the framework is the polling-unit structure, with 176,846 PWDs Mobilization Teams earmarked for grassroots engagement.
The polling-unit teams are expected to serve as the final link between the campaign leadership and persons with disabilities in communities, providing a platform for direct engagement, information dissemination, voter mobilisation and feedback.
The directorate believes that the deployment of dedicated structures at the polling-unit level will help strengthen communication and coordination while making it easier to identify the needs and concerns of persons with disabilities in different communities.
The specialized women and youth structures are also expected to provide opportunities for greater participation of women and young persons with disabilities in campaign activities and political decision-making.
The unveiling comes at a time when political parties are intensifying preparations and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
