Northeast Zonal leader for Persons with Disabilities in the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to protecting the rights of persons with disability in the country.
Hon. Abba Isa, who doubles as the National Chairman, APC PWD Progressive Stakeholders Forum, noted that the President exemplified this commitment in his recent ratification of the protocol to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights on the Rights of persons with disabilities in Africa.
He emphasized that this all-important milestone is an assurance that the era of inclusive governance and development and protection of rights of everyone including people with disabilities is here.
Abba Isa stated that the African Charter on people with disabilities heralds a step further in the resolve of the government to enhance the quality of life and guarantee inclusive, just and equitable society where everyone regardless of their different abilities can thrive and life a dignified life.
According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s gestures in aligning with international standards for the promotion and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities is no doubt exemplary, civilized and a prove of good governance. This also according to htm, is a demonstration of his love and consideration for persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
He also emphasized that people with disabilities who turned out to give the president their vote in February this year are not disappointed but instead happy that their overwhelming support for the APC has begun to yield very positive benefits.
Abba Isa reiterates that much is expected of this administration and accordingly call on Mr. President to consider appointing people with disabilities into appointive positions to consolidate on his good intention and considerations for them.
He said Nigeria is already riding on the pedestal for greatness, and prayed God to bless President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had last week signed the Instrument of Ratification of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Africa.
The Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday evening,
“|, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCER, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, do hereby formally declare that the Federal Republic of Nigeria accepts the aforementioned Protocol and undertakes to faithfully perform and carry out the stipulations therein contained.
“In witness whereof, |, President Bola Anmed Tinubu, GCFR, have set my hand and Seal of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on this Instrument of Ratification at Abuja on this 19th day of October, 2023,” the statement quoted the President as saying.
The African Disability Protocol was adopted in 2018 by the African Union, to address forms of discrimination affecting people with disabilities living in African countries.
