Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, on Monday demonstrated exemplary leadership by leading his entire members of staff to attend a one-day workshop/sensitization program on Occupational Safety and Health organized by Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA Association Nigeria).
This was in compliance with the directive of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) mandating all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to establish Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) DESK Unit in order to provide safe, conducive and healthy work environment for their employees.
OSHA Association for Occupational Safety and Health of Nigeria (OSHA Association) is an internationally
recognised professional organisation which is committed to assisting organisations achieve required standard and best practice when it comes to safety in the workplace.
While delivering his special remarks at the workshop, the SSAP acknowledged the importance of promoting a safe and healthy working environment, especially for employees engaged in special needs and equal opportunities initiatives.
The Senior Presidential aide noted that the workshop aligns with his commitment to fostering a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
Hon. Abba Isa appreciated OSHA Association’s dedication to promoting occupational safety and health standards, while expressing confidence that the workshop will contribute significantly to the awareness and implementation of best practices within the OSSAP office.
The training which revolved around identifying risk factors and potential hazards in the workplace and how to eliminate them in order to prevent or minimize accidents or fatalities was delivered by the Chief of Staff to the Country Regional Administrator, OSHA Association, Mr. Ehimikhuai A. Harrison.
Mr. Harrison discussed about ergonomics which has to do with workplace design and the need for it to be suitable for each employee’s peculiarity so as to avoid musco-skeletal disorder which may lead to permanent or acute injuries.
He also mentioned safety tips to adopt in care of emergencies such as fire outbreak which included creeping on the floor towards the exit door so as to have access to oxygen to breathe to prevent suffocation which is usually the cause of death in fire inferno.
In his vote of thanks, the Director Media and Communications Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Comrade Lanre Oloyede, thanked the management of OSHA Association for the initiative and commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace, adding that the office look forward to collaborating with OSHA Association to execute more mutually beneficial events in the future.
While promising that the knowledge acquired will be put to good use, Comrade Oloyede assured that staff members of OSSAP SNEO will be worthy ambassadors of safety everywhere they go.
