The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has urged local government authorities and stakeholders to prioritize policies and initiatives that support persons with disabilities (PWDs) and ensure inclusivity in their administration.

Hon. Abba Isa made this call during the distribution of small tricycles by the North East Youth Initiative Forum (NEYIF), funded by the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), to support girls with disabilities in Yobe State’s Jakusko Local Government Area. The event aimed to enhance the mobility of these girls and promote their inclusion in society.

Representing Hon. Abba Isa at the event was Haruna Tata, Yobe State Special Assistant on New Media, North East, to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities. Tata conveyed the SSAP’s message, emphasizing the importance of creating an inclusive environment that allows PWDs to thrive.

Hon. Abba Isa commended the North East Youth Initiative Forum (NEYIF) for their efforts in supporting PWDs, particularly girls with disabilities, through this initiative. He noted that such projects demonstrate the organization’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and empowering vulnerable groups.

Similarly, in less than a month ago, His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni has distributed over 500 tricycles to PWDs across the 17 local government areas in the state to assist them in going to school. This laudable intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration’s call for inclusive governance and empowerment of PWDs at all levels.

The Chairman of Jakusko Local Government Area expressed gratitude to Hon. Abba Isa for appointing Haruna Tata as part of his team and for his dedication to advancing the welfare of vulnerable groups in Nigeria. The local government chairman pledged to support initiatives that promote the inclusion and empowerment of PWDs within the community.

This event highlights the growing recognition of the need for inclusive policies and support systems for PWDs at the local government level. As Hon. Abba Isa continues to advocate for the rights and empowerment of PWDs, initiatives like the one by NEYIF serve as examples of the positive impact that can be achieved through collaboration and commitment to inclusivity.
