Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has reaffirmed his dedication to advancing inclusive healthcare and enhancing social welfare systems for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria.
Speaking on Monday at an event organized by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to commemorate the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), Hon. Abba Isa emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving these goals.
In his keynote address, the senior presidential aide lauded the ministry’s commitment to inclusion, noting the significance of the event in addressing the challenges faced by PWDs. “This initiative underscores the ministry’s dedication to fostering the well-being of Persons with Disabilities,” he stated.
The SSAP described theme of this year’s IDPD, “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” as timely and impactful.
He highlighted that it recognizes the vital contributions of PWDs in building a more inclusive society while aligning with global aspirations under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the forthcoming 2025 World Summit for Social Development.

“This observance reminds us of the urgent need to promote understanding of disability issues, uphold the dignity and rights of PWDs, and increase their integration into all facets of life—be it political, social, economic, or cultural,” he added.
Hon. Abba Isa also underscored his active role on the National Steering Committee on Disability-Inclusive Healthcare, inaugurated by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Isa Pate, earlier this year.
The presidential aide described the committee as a reflection of the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes inclusive governance and ensures no citizen is left behind.
“My office is fully committed to partnering with the ministry and other stakeholders to implement practical solutions that guarantee quality healthcare and robust social welfare systems for PWDs.
“By integrating disability perspectives into policies, plans, and programs across Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and at the sub-national level, we can create a society where everyone has equal opportunities,” he said.
Hon. Abba Isa further called for increased participation of PWDs in decision-making processes, stressing that their voices are crucial in shaping an inclusive and sustainable Nigeria. He assured continued collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and other stakeholders to amplify the leadership of PWDs.
“I once again commend the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for this initiative and assure you of my unwavering support as we work together to amplify the leadership and voices of PWDs,” he concluded.
The event, attended by key stakeholders, served as a platform to reiterate the commitment of the government and relevant organizations to addressing disability issues and promoting inclusivity across the country.
