SSA to president, Minister of health collaborate to create inclusive, accessible healthcare system

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa and Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, have agreed to work together to create a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system for all Nigerians

This took place Wednesday when the Senior Special Adviser paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Health in his office.

At the meeting, Hon. Abba Isa said the purpose of the meeting was to promote disability Inclusion in healthcare delivery.

The Presidential aide emphasized the need for more training and awareness around disability issues among healthcare professionals.

The SSA stressed that this is an important step towards ensuring that persons with disabilities have equal access to healthcare and other services.

In his remarks, the Minister of Health, Prof Pate agreed to prioritize this in the ministry’s policies and programs.

The two parties however agreed to work together to promote disability inclusion in the health sector.

The meeting focused on the barriers persons with disabilities face when accessing healthcare services and how training healthcare workers on inclusive communication can help bridge some of these gaps.

According to experts, developing a disability-inclusive healthcare system in Nigeria is critical to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
