Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating floods that ravaged Maiduguri, Borno State, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of lives.
In a heartfelt condolence to the government and the people of Maiduguri, particularly families who lost loved ones, those displaced or injured, Hon. Abba Isa, described the incident as unfortunate and disturbing.

The Senior presidential aide also commiserated with the persons with disabilities community, who are often disproportionately affected by disasters due to limitations in mobility, access to resources, and pre-existing socioeconomic challenges.
The SSAP pledged his commitment to ensuring that the needs of persons with disabilities are prioritized during the relief and rehabilitation efforts.
He mentioned that his office is already in discussions with relevant agencies and stakeholders to assess the damage and coordinate an effective response that addresses the unique challenges faced by persons with disabilities.

“In the coming days, my office will work with local authorities, civil society organizations, and humanitarian partners to provide assistance to all those affected. The focus will also be on long-term strategies to mitigate the impact of future disasters, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in any emergency response plans,” he stated
The presidential aide’s statement comes as the people of Maiduguri struggle to come to terms with the devastating impact of the floods. The disaster has brought significant hardship, destroying lives, homes, and properties across nearly all parts of the city.

Hon. Abba Isa’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities during this challenging time is a welcome development, and his office’s efforts will be crucial in ensuring that no one is left behind in the relief and rehabilitation efforts.
