Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon Mohammed Abba Isa, has extended his warmest felicitations with Nigerians, particularly Persons With Disabilities as the country celebrates the June 12 Democracy Day.
In a statement released Wednesday, Hon. Abba Isa described June 12 Democracy Day as a day that symbolizes the triumph of democracy and the resilient spirit of the Nigerian people.
According to the statement, the Senior presidential aide noted that the day further reaffirm government’s commitment to building a nation where every citizen, regardless of their abilities, has equal opportunities to thrive and contribute to our shared future.
The SSAP maintained that under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Renewed Hope Agenda has set a clear path towards an inclusive Nigeria, adding that the administration is dedicated to ensuring that all citizens, especially Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and individuals with special needs, are fully integrated into every facet of our society.
Speaking on the upcoming Beyond Disability Project, the presidential aide said: “Our upcoming Beyond Disability Project will further amplify our efforts, providing talent development, skill acquisition, and mentorship programs for persons with disabilities. This project will impact about 5000 PWDs fostering independence, and inclusivity.
“This project aims to dismantle the barriers that hinder full participation in society and to create an environment where everyone can achieve their full potential.
“The Beyond Disability Project will focus on several critical areas:
1. **Economic Empowerment:** We will provide vocational training, entrepreneurship programs, and microcredit facilities tailored for PWDs, enabling them to become self-reliant and economically independent.
2. **Educational Inclusion:** Through scholarships, accessible learning materials, and teacher training programs, we will ensure that every child with special needs receives a quality education that paves the way for a bright future.
3. **Healthcare Access:** We will enhance healthcare services, making them more inclusive and responsive to the unique needs of PWDs, including the provision of assistive devices and specialized medical care.
4. **Public Awareness and Advocacy:** We will launch nationwide campaigns to raise awareness about the rights and capabilities of PWDs, fostering a culture of respect, inclusion, and support.
5. **Technology and Innovation:** Leveraging technology, we will develop innovative solutions that address the daily challenges faced by PWDs, from mobility aids to communication tools, ensuring they can navigate the world with greater ease.”
