The Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa.

The delegation, led by the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ishaku Adamu, included Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, Board Member; Mrs. Rebecca Sanusi, Board Member; and Mr. Mohammed Garba, Director of Administration and Finance/Secretary of the Commission. They commended the SSA for receiving them warmly despite the short notice.

In his remarks, Mr. Adamu praised the SSA for raising the visibility and relevance of his office through impactful initiatives. “You have elevated the status of this office. Today, no conversation about disability in Nigeria is complete without referencing SSAP Abba Isa. You have made us proud as a community, and we deeply appreciate the work you are doing,” he said.

Mr. Adamu further explained that the Gombe State Disability Commission, though still in its early stages, carries huge expectations from both the state government and the disability community. He noted that the visit had two objectives:

To appreciate the SSA for his outstanding efforts.
To seek partnership and collaboration with his office in order to deliver effectively on their mandate and ensure that Persons with Disabilities in Gombe State benefit from the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Responding, SSAP Abba Isa commended the Executive Chairman for his dedication to the Commission’s growth. He also expressed gratitude to the Governor of Gombe State for enacting the state disability law, establishing the Commission, appointing Mr. Ishaku Adamu as its pioneer Executive Chairman, and approving a permanent site for the College of Education Special in Dukku, Gombe State.

The SSA further disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the College of Education Special in Dukku and assured the delegation that they would be involved in its implementation.

He congratulated Mr. Adamu on his appointment and wished him success, urging him to exhibit exceptional leadership qualities. “Leading the disability community is not an easy task because of its diversity. You must lead with wisdom, discretion, and fairness,” he advised.
