SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE PRESIDENT ON SPECIAL NEEDS AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES

Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa is a distinguished champion of the rights and welfare of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) with over a decade of experience in local and international advocacy on matters concerning People with Special Needs.

He is a man with a heart of gold, a strong love for humanity and desire to see the vulnerable and less privileged live a decent life.

As a graduate of Public Administration with honours from the University of Maiduguri, Hon. Isa went on to earn a Masters in Public Administration at the same institution in 2017.


On. November 9, 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in line with his desire to see every segment of the Nigerian society sufficiently catered to within the ambit of the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration, appointed Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa as his Senior Special Assistant on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities to advance disability inclusion and ensure equitable access to opportunities for individuals with special needs across Nigeria.


This appointment reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to building a more inclusive society that integrates persons with disabilities (PWDs) into national development efforts.


Hon. Isa’s mandate includes promoting disability inclusion in all government policies, plans, and programs across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), subnational governments, and with development partners.

As the SSAP, Mr President specifically mandated Hon. Abba Isa to proactively create avenues of opportunity for inclusion through the inculcation of PWD requirements and perspectives in the policies and programmes of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the Federal Government while working closely with sub-national authorities to build a national consensus on PWD-friendly policy and environmental conditions in collaboration with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).


He is tasked with forming strategic partnerships with these bodies, including the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), state governments, and international organizations to advocate for the rights of PWDs.

His role also involves raising public awareness on disability issues, supporting the implementation of laws benefiting PWDs, and contributing to legislative advancements for inclusivity. Additionally.

Hon. Isa is responsible for empowering PWDs through capacity-building initiatives, economic inclusion, and equal access to education and employment, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society for all Nigerians.


The last one year in office as the SSAP has been a glowing testament to the strength and resilience of his commitment to achieve significant milestones in advancing inclusivity and accessibility for persons with disabilities.

From policy initiatives to community engagement, Hon. Abba Isa has made frantic efforts aimed at fostering an environment where every citizen, regardless of ability, can thrive.


In the coming days, Hon. Abba Isa as the SSAP is poised for greater drive for Disability inclusion and opportunities as he shall be delving into the arena, pushing the frontiers and leaving no stone unturned to ensure the thriving of inclusive society in Nigeria.
