The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities and President of the Nigeria ParaVolley Federation, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has congratulated the federation’s Technical Director, Coach Christian Agoawuike, on his appointment as a member of the Board of ParaVolley Africa.
Abba Isa described the appointment as a significant milestone for Nigerian para-volleyball, noting that it would give the country a voice in the continental body responsible for advancing the sport across Africa.
The presidential aide, who facilitated Agoawuike’s nomination, said the appointment reflected Nigeria’s growing ambition to strengthen its presence in international para-sports administration and create greater opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
He expressed confidence that Agoawuike’s wealth of experience, technical expertise and longstanding commitment to para-volleyball would contribute meaningfully to the development of the sport across the continent.
Abba Isa also described the appointment as a well-deserved recognition of Agoawuike’s dedication, professionalism and outstanding contributions to the growth of para-volleyball in Nigeria.
Agoawuike brings more than two decades of experience in para-volleyball, having served in various technical and coaching capacities and contributed to the development of athletes and teams representing Nigeria in international competitions.
He is also the technical adviser and coach of Nigeria’s Invictus Games teams, which have won several medals and trophies at competitions across the world.
His appointment is expected to provide an opportunity for Nigeria to contribute more directly to discussions and decisions concerning the growth, technical development and administration of para-volleyball in Africa.
This development represents one of the significant milestones recorded by the federation under the able leadership of Hon. Abba Isa, less than three months after assuming office as president of the Federation.
Recall that Abba Isa was elected president of the Nigeria ParaVolley Federation in July 2026, emerging unopposed at the federation’s elective congress held at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, securing all nine votes cast by accredited delegates.
In his acceptance speech, the presidential aide pledged to reposition the federation, improve the welfare of para-athletes and expand opportunities for Nigerians with disabilities to participate in the sport
He also promised to work closely with stakeholders to raise the standard of para-volleyball, strengthen the federation’s administrative structures and provide athletes with greater opportunities to excel nationally and internationally.
The appointment of Agoawuike to the ParaVolley Africa Board is remarkable fulfillment of this pleadge, as it marks a new opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen its engagement with continental stakeholders and advance the interests of Nigerian athletes with disabilities.
Abba Isa equally reaffirmed his commitment to promoting inclusive sports development, strengthening international partnerships and ensuring that Nigerian para-athletes receive greater recognition and opportunities to compete at the highest levels.
