JONAPWD Congratulates Abba Isa on Appointment as Director PWD Mobilization for 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council

The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has congratulated the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Muhammad Abba Isa, on his appointment as Director, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Mobilization of the APC Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a congratulatory message signed by its National Chairman, Abdullahi Aliyu Usman, JONAPWD described the appointment as a significant milestone and a strong recognition of the competence, leadership capacity and potential of persons with disabilities to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s political development.
The association commended the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for entrusting Abba Isa with the responsibility, noting that the appointment presents an important opportunity for persons with disabilities to have a stronger voice and greater participation in the political mobilisation process ahead of the 2027 elections.
JONAPWD further noted that the appointment was particularly significant because Abba Isa is himself a person with a disability and has, over the years, remained actively involved in disability advocacy, policy engagement and efforts to advance the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
According to the association, his lived experience gives him a deeper understanding of the realities, aspirations and challenges confronting persons with disabilities across the country.
“Persons with disabilities are not a homogeneous group,” the association stressed, emphasising the diversity within the disability community and the need for political structures to recognise and accommodate the different experiences and needs of persons with disabilities.
JONAPWD also recalled Abba Isa’s appointment as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities in 2023, describing it as an important step towards strengthening disability representation and bringing disability-related issues closer to the centre of government.
The association expressed confidence that his new assignment would provide another platform for him to deploy his experience and understanding of the disability community, particularly in the area of political participation and mobilisation.
Beyond congratulating the APC and Abba Isa, JONAPWD called on other political parties across the country to emulate the development by creating meaningful opportunities for qualified persons with disabilities within their leadership, campaign and decision-making structures.
The association stressed that political inclusion should go beyond participation at rallies and campaign events to encompass leadership, decision-making, policy formulation and political mobilisation.
It also encouraged members of the disability community nationwide to actively participate in the democratic process, engage constructively with political structures and continue to advocate for equal opportunities and inclusive governance.
JONAPWD wished Hon. Abba Isa wisdom, strength and success in his new assignment, expressing confidence that his experience in advocacy and policy engagement would contribute to greater political participation and representation for persons with disabilities across Nigeria.
The association’s message adds to growing recognition of the importance of disability inclusion in Nigeria’s political process as political parties and stakeholders begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
